On 17 February, Executive Vice President Henna Virkkunen took part in a thematic roundtable discussion as part of the Commission’s ongoing Dialogue with the Automotive Industry, launched by President von der Leyen on 30 January 2025. The meeting focused on key topics related to the sector’s technological and digital transformation, including the European Digital Vehicle, Cooperative, Connected and Automated Driving (CCAD), data access, and critical technologies.
In the context of the automotive industry’s rapid evolution, Executive-Vice President Virkkunen engaged with industry leaders, stakeholders, and experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from these technological advancements. The discussion explored how the EU can support the industry’s competitiveness and innovation, while ensuring that the benefits of digitalization are shared by all.
This discussion is an integral part of the Commission’s inclusive and collaborative approach to shaping the future of the European automotive industry. It will contribute to the development of EU policies and initiatives that address the sector’s needs and promote sustainable growth.
The output of this consultative process will inform the EU’s Industrial Action Plan for the automotive sector under the guidance of Commissioner Tzitzikostas, aimed at supporting the industry’s transition towards a more sustainable, digital, and competitive future.
