A Men in Sheds team has opened its door to nine women who want to set up their own group.
The women were asked to join in at the MiS sessions held at FarmEco, Screveton.
The eight were split into two groups for one morning and one afternoon session.
They were shown how to handle safely chops saws, bench saws and band saws.
A nail-gun was also brandished.
Bev Maguire from Harby said:
“As girls, we were never taught any woodworking skills at school and it’s something I’ve always wanted to have a go at.
“I’ve never really used a hand saw and thought it’d be useful to know how to handle one.
“It was great to be shown how to use the tools safely and then be able to have a go ourselves.
“These power tools are a bit frightening at first but are easy to use.
“I can’t wait to get stuck into some proper projects over the coming months.”
Kev Bryant, shed co-ordinator, said:
“ It’s great to see the women enjoying themselves.
“The chaps teaching them also enjoyed sharing their skills and knowledge.
“Over the coming weeks we’ll be building up skills and confidence and letting them loose on their own projects and some work we’ve got lined up for them in the shed.”
The women only sessions are held on a Thursday (10am to 12noon, or 1pm to 3pm).
There is a mixed session on a Tuesday evening (7pm to 9pm).
