Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, held a Youth Policy Dialogue with 16 young people in Brussels, on Monday 3 March. The participants are coming from various Member States with backgrounds in renewable energy, sustainability, environmental policy or human rights. Many are students and young graduates with some also volunteering in organizations such as the UN, Greenpeace, and Amnesty International.
Many will have the opportunity to present their ideas on ocean policies. They will take an active role in the discussions that will feed into the European Ocean Pact, a key initiative that will be setting the EU vision and aim at increasing coherence across all ocean-related policies. This dialogue underscores the importance of integrating youth perspectives into policymaking, resonating with the Commissioner’s Mission Letter statement on the pivotal role of the younger generation in efforts for ocean conservation and in developing further the blue economy.
The Youth Policy Dialogue is organized in the framework of the second edition of the European Ocean Days, taking place from 3 to 7 March 2025. On 5 March, Commissioner Kadis will also take part in the Fisheries and Ocean Dialogues that will inform the development of the European Ocean Pact. Representatives of all ocean sectors from SMEs, industry, academia, and research centres to NGOs will bring their views and help shape the future EU’s ocean governance framework.
