On 25 February, Frontex’s Executive Director Hans Leijtens and European Commission’s Acting Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Beate Gminder, signed a working arrangement to strengthen cooperation and partnership in migration management.
The working arrangement reflects a shared commitment to cooperate on situational awareness, early warning, and forecasting.
The cooperation aims to share information about the overall migratory situation across the EU. It is important for the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and in particular for the preparation of the European Annual Asylum and Migration Report, which will be published for the first time in October 2025.
The co-operation is a strategic step forward for EU migration management since it enhances monitoring and anticipation within the Migration Preparedness and Crisis Blueprint Network. It contributes to building resilience and preparedness in the field of migration.
Close collaboration among EU institutions, member states and international organisations is key in supporting the effective management of the Union’s external borders. It aligns with the comprehensive approach to asylum and migration management as outlined under the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
