Six people have been killed after a helicopter crashed near Mount Everest.

Five Mexican tourists and a local Nepalese pilot were onboard.

The Manang Air ‘copter was lost in eastern Nepal’s Solukhumbu District, home to several high mountain peaks.

Regional official Sita Adhikari confirmed all the bodies have been recovered.

She said:

“The bodies have broken into pieces.

“More police have been sent to the location.

“Only then will we know details.”

Manang Air is one of many operators that routinely ferries tourists to the Himalayas to glimpse Nepal’s mountains.

The aircraft was returning to the capital Kathmandu after taking the group on a trip to Mount Everest.

Airport official Sagar Kadel said weather conditions had caused changes to be made to the helicopter’s planned flight route.

About 10 minutes after taking off at 10:04am (04:19 GMT), the aircraft dropped off the radar and lost contact with air traffic control.

The Government is to investigate the crash.
