Burglars could be freed from prison months earlier to tackle jail over-crowding.
Hundreds of inmates serving sentences up to four years are to be set free six months early.
Britain’s prisons have taken in four thousand extra people over the last year.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has already agreed an extension in the time that offenders released from jail can spend at home.
The new measures could free up to six hundred prison places.
An MoJ spokesman said:
“Our common-sense changes will see fewer prisoners released on home detention curfew overall – not more.
“Those who commit crimes linked to domestic abuse – such as stalking, harassment and coercive control – will no longer be considered for release on HDC.
“Also, we are toughening up risk assessments for eligible offenders.”
